When walking out of town I met a 73 year old on a quick 4k walk as he is training to walk The Great Wall of China. Better him than me. Steps are my next least favourite after beach/sand walking. Anyway we had a discussion on walking and losing weight and then I had the long climb up the hill. I was thinking John should be climbing the hill not doing flat circuits around town.
I felt surprisingly good after a day off in town and the climb was fairly quick. I then entered Kaiser Stuhl conservation park. Now this area reminded me of the bush in Perth. Not Jarrah trees but granite rocks and open forest. I am surprised a lot by the amount of deadwood on the ground. The fuel load in these parks is immense so a fire is going to be catastrophic.
Then pass into a forestry zone followed by a climb up over the Wirra Warra peaks then up and over Mt Crawford. That's when I saw a Koala walking across the ground when I put the pack down to walk a side trail to the Mt Crawford summit. Another hill with a lot of dead wood on the ground.
After that is a walk down to a marked campground on my map. But the signage doesn't help and I ended up walking the wrong way and had crossed a river when I pulled out the map and worked out I had gone the wrong way for the campground. So I went back and then find the campground is back on the other side of the river. I did find a fallen tree to cross over instead of walking all the way back to the previous river crossing.
There was a set-up of some military tents so I walked over and found out there were 50 school cadets camping out in the forests overnight. Good luck to them it was due to rain and was going to be cold.

Got to the hut early afternoon giving me time to dry out the tent fly that was wet from the night before and just sit in what sunshine I could get and air my feet out.
